Can you use the 56XX or 96xx Phones as a SIP Phone to another SIP System?

We are looking to switch away from the Avaya and go directly to a SIP ISP, though wanted to know if we could use a SIP firmware on the Avaya 5610 or the 96xx series phones to connect directly to a SIP Provider? Looks like they Support SIP with the SIG options, though I have not found much about it.

Thanks!

You will never get this to work. they were not designed to work on non-avaya systems. I would just buy or lease new phones.

From what I've seen, on the Avaya IP phones you can only set IP addresses etc to link to the IP Office and everything else is pulled from the setting file.

I'm sure all of this is Avaya specific.

On a generic SIP phone you can set the IP addresses etc on the phone then configure SIP accounts details in a web browser or on a central server.
