I have a small network at home with a W2K server running DHCP connected to the Internet with a cable modem.
I can establish a VPN link to the office on this server and share it using ICS, which enables the NT4 machines at home to also connect to the office. But, this means that all my internet traffic goes through the VPN link whether I'm connecting to the internet or the office intranet which is too slow. I can't add static routes, and disabling the 'use default gateway on remote network' option just means I lose my connectivity to the Internet.
I can also just run NAT on the W2K box, and establish a VPN link directly from my NT4 machine to the office network. Great - now my internet requests are fast, but I keep getting problems with the link, and it keeps dropping the VPN connection followed by errors trying to reconnect.
I want to be able to reliably use the DSL connection for all Internet traffic, and the VPN link for Intranet traffic.
Any ideas? Many many thanks for anyone who can help....
