Does anybody know if a data pump directory can be defined on a windows server other than the local oracle database server? I tried creating a directory in oracle that points to a mapped drive location o:\ and a network share in the \\myserver\myshare format but datapump does not recognize any directory defined like this. I want to do datapump exports from the oracle server to a file server for storage.

Does anybody know if there is a way to define a datapump directory on another server and use it from the oracle db host server?

thanks

I could be wrong, but I don't think that this can be done. However what you could do is create a scheduled task to cut/copy the file from source to target (maybe create a .bat file and use the xcopy command)

What we normally do is create the exports on the local machine and then move them to another server. We were just looking at the possibility of cutting out the middle step. Our export is getting to be close to 20gb and it takes a lot of time to move those files across the network.

You can, but it will probably take even longer. And generates tons of network traffic. If your database server is fast, export locally, and rar it. Usually it will make the size much smaller 10% of original size then move it. 2GB won't be too bad.

Thats what we'll keep doing then.

thanks
