Can you start an app via report scheduler?

I'm using Crystal Reports 8.5 and I've been told that it's possible to start an application using the report scheduler; possibly via some specific syntax in a report. My ultimate goal is to make use of the scheduler within an application I'm writing and use it to start up some processes that would need to run on a regular basis...

Does anyone know of a way to do this?
