I am trying to work out whether I can run DNS on w2k server without promoting the server to a domain controller. I deally I would like to run it as part of a workgroup. I don't (can't) connect it to the real world, but still want to be able to demo some aspects of dns.

Can anyone advise?
Graham

Yes you can... Just install the DNS service. Technically you are supposed to have DNS installed and running before promoting the server to a Domain Controller, so Active Directory has a Naming Scheme.
