Want to have small wireless hub for people to connect to. After a certain time of day, is it possible to restrict access after a certain time of day. What special equipment would that require?? I have an idea of what I need to do. I just want to make sure I take every aspect into account. Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you want to restrict access to the wireless side based on time of day?

You can do this with DD-WRT, it's a replacement firmware image you can load into many different wireless routers. It came from Linksys having to release it's code due to GPL requirements. The author modified the GPL code to unlock a lot of capabilities found only in high-end, expensive APs and wireless routers. Here's a starting point:

But first check if your wireless router is supported:

But fair warning, you can render your router useless if you are careless with the firmware replacement process, although there are ways to recover in some cases. See:

There is also at least one other alternative to DD-WRT, it's the OpenWRT project, based on the same idea:

Your assumption is correct. I DO want to restrict it based on time of day. I will go over some of the links and if it is OK I might have some more questions. Thanks.

Sure, glad to help, I'm running the VPN version on my network and I love it. Haven't had to reboot the Linksys WRT54G or re-configure "lost settings" since upgrading.

Sounds like the Linksys WRT54Does the Linksys WRT54G need to be flashed to be able to support dd-wrt? From your link of supported devices it appears it doesnt need to be. The only field under "Notes for running DD-WRT" says VXWorks killer. I would much rather not flash if I dont have to. Thanks.

Sorry bad grammer. My first sentance was supposed to be "Sounds like the Linksys WRT54G would solve my issue". Does the ...

Yes, you have to flash the DD-WRT image, which replaces the Linksys image, but I had no problems with this. Due dilligence pays off, check your serial number for compatibility. You should flash the latest stable "generic mini" version first, using Linksys flash upgrade procedure, and then use the DD-WRT flash upgrade procedure to flash the DD-WRT image (standard, voip, vpn) you want to run, depending on the amount flash memory your Linksys hardware rev has.

You can still save the flash image that is on there now before loading the DD-WRT, if you happen to not like it or have any problems. I'm with dtrtel---I seriously doubt you will have any problems. But ALWAYS back up, no matter what!
