I have a BCM1000 3.6 that is on it's last leg and I have a BCM400 3.7 going in its place. Can I do a restore of the programming from the BCM1000 3.6 to the BCM400 3.7? Thanks.
If you do the restore at all (meaning check the box that says restore even if versions are different) you'll have a large paperweight on your hands. You can still recover from it, but it'll take a lot longer and you'll be programming from scratch.
Only time that trick worked was restoring between 3.0 and 3.01 - there wasn't enough difference to break things.
I agree with ace - anything can be fixed, and probably for a lot less money than replacing the entire box.
One reason that I am replacing it and it is the main reason is that I am putting in the redundant system. This location is a call center and I can't risk the 1000 going down for anytime during a business day. The other is that I think the BCM1000 is a lingering disaster (personal opinion) I've been seeing more and more problems happening. Thanks for the answer, I knew that it was a problem to do the restore but I thought maybe someone knew a way that would work. Thanks.
If this was me, I would program the new BCM 400 to be just like the old BCM 1000 and then do a change out. You will need to buy new Key Codes, or have nortel transfer the Key Codes from the old BCM to the new BCM.
And that's what I am doing, like I said this is a call center with multiple skillset's setup so I didn't want to have to reprogram them but I will. Thanks.
The only way you could do the restore is if BOTH BCM's are at identical versions and patch levels. Then (and only then) you can restore Telephony and Voice Apps (ONLY). Did I mention that it is IMPERATIVE that they are identical in version and patch level? That is rather important.
If you didn't allready reprogram your Bcm 3.7 from scratch
i would upgrade your T1000 3.6 to 3.7 (around $300.00) and then restore your T1000 3.7 to bcm 400 3.7.
It will become cheaper at the end then reprogramming from
scratch and maybe forget to program some keys, speedials or
special function they're using and maybe going back 2 or 3
times to fix things you might have forgotten...
Wait. I would stick with the BCM 1000 box. If you are replacing the 1000 thinking that the 400 is more stable think again. I'm a die hard Nortel fan, but to be honest, I've become increasingly disallusioned with the BCM product. We have had a 50% failure rate of BCM Base Function Trays on the 400, and a 15% on the MSC card. Not nearly the same level of system failures of the old 1000's. I know, you're thinking that the 1000 has been discontinued for over 3 years, and it's old technology. But, every time Nortel tries to fix something on the 400 lately they seem to make it worse. The 400 is really unstable - and the crazy thing is, you think you're buying a redundant system, but any corruption of the main drive on the redundant system copies the corruption over to the back-up redundant drive. Kind of makes you wonder what's the point.
I'm just hoping that Nortel gets their act together and eventually fixes the 400 - makes a stable platform. Linux is just the OS and might make the software less buggy, but the core of the 400 cabinet remains the same.
Anyway, good luck with your upgrade - it will be a long night !
