Hi Everybody,

Quick question,

Can I plug a non-PoE device into a PoE enabled switch?

Can the PoE switch be enabled/disabled per port? or are they all "lit-up" at the same time?

Any damage to non-PoE equipment if I use this switch? I would hate to waste a 24 port switch with only 2 or 3 devices.

Thanks.

Yes you can connect a non-poe device to a poe switch with no problems. I once had a great site that explained it really well, but basically a device that can accept power from the switch has a certain resistance value across a pair of the wires in the cable. If the switch detects that resistance, than power is applied. Otherwise, it's not.

Also, you can disable power on a per port basis. Use the "no power inline" command to disable power.

think the command is "power inline never" to disable POE.
