I have a NW 5.0 server which has 2 PII 550 Zeon processors (Dell 6300). It is both a file file and print server with between 600 to 750 users on it on an average day. It sickens me to see the processor 0 get to 70% to 95% while processor 1 does not hit 1%. Is there anything that I can force to use the second processor. It thought in 4.11 you could force your LAN driver to use the other processor. Is this correct, and is it true for 5.0.

Assuming that you have invoked SMP on your 5.0 server. The kernel itself has the ability to support up to 32 processors. It will offload threads as new requests come into the server. What I would suggest doing is the following:

Get a netware 5 book if you don't already have one.
Review the info on SMP and verify the configuration.
Then look at the features for setting up processing time etc, I believe once you look there, you should be able to offload some of the work. Keep in mind though, that a novell servers CPU is running good if the utilization is between 20% to 80%, don't let this be the reason to invoke the second processor or become a focus point.

Mark C. I will be achieving my CNE 5 in the near future, hopefully before Novell's CCR deadline. I also have my BS in MIS
