Hi All....

I have a linksys router and I would like to know if there is a device that connects to a port to make only one port wireless. I want to connect my laptop wireless and I don't want to go out a purchase a new wireless router. Does anyone know if there is such a device?

THANKS!

no, the only thing that will do the job is a wireless access point. a device that connects from a wired ethernet connection to a wireless connection, is by definition, a WAP.

however - there is a distinction between a wireless access point and a wireless router. Unfortunately, it's only about £10 - £20 price difference :(

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

you also could install a wireless card in a pc and it can be used as a AP for your laptop. if you're useing XP on the pc its pretty simple with the built-in options.

The port on the router will be wireless, once you plug an access point into it.

check out the linksys ethernet bridge.

The WET11, wireless bridge, is not a good fit for the problem in this thread.

It would work fine if he had a remote switch that he wanted to connect to an existing wireless lan. It cannot serve as a wireless bridge point for a client adapter.

so it don't go both ways? we install them the other way around. such as router>AP>antenna >coax >wireless bridge>ethernet card and works fine.

i figured it would "bridge" the other way. oh well.
