can you install os x twice on mac g4

my new mac g4 was shipped to me at my work. i put in the "install disk" but then realized it already had os x installed. is it on my machine twice, or did it just replace it.

did you choose the default options during setup? you probably just 'upgraded' your os x. the installer won't put it on twice(unless you have multiple drives and you specifically tell it to do so)
