There is no reason to do this. All new versions are backwards compatible. Install the latest version of manager and you're done.
If for some reason you need to change/upgrade firmware, you can simply download the BINS for R7 and store them in a separate folder. Then in manager, change the BINS location folder when working on the R7. But this would only be necessary if you are going to upgrade firmware. Day to day, you just use the newest version of manager.
The answer is yes you can, create a folder in c:\program files\Avaya\IP Office named as the version number ( 7.0 ) and move the manager, monitor and callstatus map into the 7.0 folder. Then install the next version of Manager.
you are correct that it is possible to install multiple managers but it rarely is not necessary.
I have 8.1 installed plus copies of Manager.exe for Alchemy, V1.4 and V2.0 (these can be run without a full install provided a later manager is installed) & no not find anything else necessary.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
I use intrigrants way all the time and i gave a star for that.
The reasons behind it is that i can change the working directory for upgrading/downgrading.
Also sometimes backwards compatible does not mean it actually is a 100% working correctly.
When i have doubts or when i have to reprogram a system because of issues i want the right version.
I have 1.3, 1.4 ,2.0, 2.1, 3.1, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 8.1 and 9.0 manager on my PC exactly for the reason tlpeter gave.
I only use the 8.1 manager but in some cases I use the manager version equal to the IP Office version, I don't trust Avaya 100% and I have learned that the hard way.
With so many firmware changes to the different phone models, a lot of times you can't just upgrade/downgrade the BINS alone. Another good reason to hold onto a FULL Manager folder is for the Memory Card folder within, in case you need to re-create an SD-Card for a specific version.

I wouldn't say I "hate" my job...it's just that most days, I'd rather get kicked in the nuts repeatedly instead of being here.
