This printer was free so I don't know of it's maintenance history. I was able to improve print quality a bit by adjusting the developer rollers but I might not quite have it perfect.

It prints some graphics quite perfectly, but photos usually look quite dirty. High contrast photos aren't too bad but there's usually some bad copy machine quality to lower contrast photos.
I really love this printer, I just need something to print better photos I know this engine has the detail capability it just needs to use it properly!.

Does this sound like a worn out drum? I'm hesitant to pay $200 for a replacement drum because I'm not sure that will fix the problem.

Any advice? Help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Before I begin Reuben, I should warn you that it could cost maybe more that $200. Free printer are not always free.

You can print the worst photo, but before the page comes out in the middle of the procedure , open the door and stop the print job. Examine the page, the drum and the transfer belt see where the print quality problem is coming from. If it is a intermitten problem more like its going to get worst and finally stop printing.

Another way to isolate the problem is to do test pages from the printer internal pages see at which page its having the problem from that you can look up the failing part.

Parts problem, since this printer is no long supported by Xerox there may be a problem getting internal parts like HVPS, MCU and Image board.

Hope this helps.
