Can you add a SCSI tape backup drive to a computer that is running IDE hard drives (in a Raid 1 configuration)?

OR - Do you need to also have SCSI hard drives in the computer if you want to add the SCSI tape drive?

I've heard that you either have to go 100% IDE or 100% SCSI.

I thought all RAID configurations used SCSI but you can install a SCSI adapter and connect the SCSI tape drive. It will work fine with IDE drives on the system.

I have ide raid and scsi backup on xp and have no problems. Tez

Backups are great but checking if you can restore is more fun.

SCSI and IDE will mix and match pretty easily - depends on the O/S.

Windows 2000, for example, requires the SCSI and IDE RAID drivers to be loaded early in the setup procedure by pressing F6 as the blue screen loads. I'd imagine Windows XP would prefer the drivers to be loaded at this point as well, but is probably more forgiving and may well allow later installation.

Linux, on the other hand, will simply load up drivers for what's in the computer (if the distro is recent enough), or you can add drivers later.

Hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk
