I get the message below when try to access ASP and the Access backend is open.

Is there anyway of getting round this (is it specific to Access or would I get teh same if I was using sybase back end?

Thanks as Always
Ross

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could not use '(unknown)'; file already in use.

/cgi-bin/test/rmclanac/paging3.asp, line 82
Ross,
You should be able to open an Access database multiple times concurrently. Make sure you're not opening it exclusively.

nick bulka

Nick (et al)
I dont think it is this. The db is set to open shared and not exclusive in tools>options in the db. (no record locking)

Its not the end of the world, but it would be nice for the administrators to be able to run reports in the background whilst uers are using the web front end. Almost certainly this is possible, anyone else have any suggestions.

Much appreciated
Ross

Dear Ross,

What server are you using?

If you are running a real installation of IIS on NT Server then you are probably running into a permissions problem. The access files like to write to a temporary file of the same name as the .MDB but with a .LDB extension. The IUSER_XXXXX account being used by the web server needs to have write access to the folder where the database file resides. The Web server must also be set to 'write' permission for that folder.

Hope this helps,
Pete
