Greetings all ~

I have a user who's alias is helpdesk@example.com - I would like another user to also receive these alias emails?

From what I can tell, I can't create the same alias for 2 users. Is there another way I can do this? Rules maybe?

Thanks in advance.

You could set up a rule to forward mail from one user to another. Better would be to use delegate rather than forward since that sends on the original message rather than as an attachment.

You could also setup a user called helpdesk and give full proxy rights to whoever you wish. That way if the original user leaves you don't have to transfer email, contacts, calendar dates etc., you just give someone else proxy rights. We have been doing it for a couple of years and it works very well. It also lets the IS dept have the capability of a shared calendar for dept schedules, meetings and the like. I have some users that only see the calendar and others with full rights to email as well. My techs can have read-only email & calendar while the helpdesk user & backups have read-write. It is very easy to maintain.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

Thanks for the replies.

Mark - I took your suggestion. It seems to be working great. I gave 3 people proxy access and appears to be exactly what I was looking for.

Ok - now to get advanced (advanced for me anyway)

I would now like to find a "middle of the road" with proxy rights. If I select the "Read Only" option, it will not allow anyone to delete those email. I like that. However, if you want to move the email to another directory (lets say new folder under cabinet called "followup") it will not let you move it. If you change the access to "Write" will allow move & Delete.

Is there a way to allow them to move the email into different folders but not to delete it?

Thanks again. You've already helped me tons ~

I can't find a way. Maybe someone else knows how, sorry :-(

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

You could try setting up some shared folders within the helpdesk mailbox and set the permissions to give 'read' and 'add' access but not 'delete'. People should then be able to read and move stuff between the folders but not delete them; they can also work within their own mailbox without having to proxy in/out of the helpdesk mailbox.
If this deosn't work, you'll have to trust people not to delete mails. It is possible to track mails to check if any have been deleted, but we don't use that here so I'm not sure how easy it is.
