What are you trying to achieve? You can add Hyper-v and powershell to 2008 std, as long as it's 64 bit for Hyper-V

Thanks pagy..

Just a Windows 2008 functional member server with Powershell abilities and Hyper-V is all.

So where do I specify on the server for 64 bit Hyper-V? is this the architecture of the physical server (which by the way is a dell poweredge R710 64 bit dual quad core server) or is this when I install the Hyper V role from Server Manager?

Just need to be sure on this, I don't want to have to re-do everything...

thanks for any info

Your processor needs to be 64 bit (which it would appear to be) and you need to have a 64 bit version of Windows server 2008 installed.

If you meet the two requirements specified by Pagy, you can then add Hyper-V by going into the Server Management console, click the link to add a role, and select the Hyper-V role.

Alternatively, there is a free download of the stand alone Hyper-V R2 that you can download and install on bare hardware, but then you'll have to install your Windows 2008 OS again on top of Hyper-V. But if you wanted to get the Hyper-V R2 feature set without having to upgrade your server license to Windows 2008 R2 this would be one way to go.
