Is it possible to do hyperterminal through IP over the internet rather than dialing into a box as long as the company has the server on a obtainable IP on the net??? Keith Buchanan

All Windows versions have a telnet client, try typing telnet <machine name> in the run box I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Yes, Hyperterminal will also do telnet (access via IP)

When you define a new connection, the first dialog prompt you for a connection name (descriptive) and an icon choice.

The second dialog asks you for "Connect to" parameters. In this dialog you will find a dropdown near the bottom, labeled "Connect using:" In this dropdown, select not a modem or a COM port, but instead "TCP/IP (winsock)."

The dialog will change itself, and will now have "Host address" and "port number" fields. Put the remote Telnet server host's DNS name or IP address in, and let the port default to 23 unless you know that another port is being used at the server.

That's about it.
