Hello!

Is it possible to disconnect a user from a certain program in Novell Netware 3.11? We have an application that only allows one connection at a time. The last user that used the program crashed the system. On reboot, it still shows the user as connected to the application and no one else is allowed to connect.

Is there a way to disconnect the user from the program on the Server side?

Thanks!

Hi, Vascorp

Well, if you have rebooted the server, that will have closed any connections, so as long as that user has not logged back in, it is not Novell that is keeping it open.

More than likely it is the application itself which is using some kind of a lock file or semaphore file to indicate application in use. Because the system crashed that never got reset and so the app thinks it is still in use.

More than likely the application has a way of resetting this but you may have to check their docs or contact them to find out how.

To ensure no connections are using the app, use Monitor on the server and go thru the user connections. Hit enter on each one and it will show you the open files. You can disconnect a user from there, but if they have files open that is a dangerous thing to do - better to get them to log off.
