can you create or use animation in Authorware?

I am pretty new to Authorware and I know you can move images around using the motion icon, but can you do any other type of animation ? (eg a flickering flame, or an image that changes colours or uses changing colours to produce a pulsating effect). Just general animations that you might create using an animated gif or flash etc.
I know you can play gif's and flash animations if you package authorware to be viewed on the web, but can you create interesting animations or even mouse-over effects for a normal Authorware presentation from CD or hard disk?
