Can you create links _and_ disable 'changing the document'?

Hi,

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I've wasted hours trying to figure this out and have got nowhere.

I'm using Acrobat 4.0 and want to set the security level so it's not possible to change the document or select text or graphics.

I also want to have internal links within the document, for instance clicking on anything from the table of contents will take you straight to the page.

I can get it to do one or the other, but not both.

If I start out with distiller security set to disallow changing the document, it won't let me put in the links.

If I uncheck 'changing the document' in distiller first it will let me put in the links, but if I then go back into distiller and check 'changing the document', when I then re-open the document it's taken out the links I'd put in previously (even though I'd saved them).

Am I making some real goofy error, or is it just not possible to do what I'm attempting?

All suggestions gratefully received!

Andrew

Hmmm - I've not tried doing both (only or the other) but am a little concerned when you menion that (a) you are using Distiller 4 and (b) that you are changing the security settings in Distiller. V6 of Acrobat has been released, so you might want to look into upgrading, at least to V5. I don't recall how V4 handled security , but in V5, it is not done in Distiller, it is done in Acrobat. I wonder if upgrading might help solve your problem?
