Hi,

Is there a way to convert an ACCESS 2000 database to a non-ACCESS executable database that multiple users can share and do data entry?

(I am trying to see if additional users without ACCESS software can still open and perform data entry in a database) This would be a substantial cost savings if we did not have to purchase the additional s/w licenses.

Any suggestions as to whether or not this can be done?

I THING YOU HAVE TO DEVELOP A SOFTWARE WITH VB OR C++. SO USER CAN ACCESS THROUGH THE SOFTWARE. YOU DON'T NEDD MS ACCESS INSTALLED IN THE USER COMPUTER.

Using 'RUNTIME' which is included with the Packaging and Deployment wizard would enable users on PC's without the full blown Access program installed to run your databases.

They won't be able to go into design view and make alterations - but that is possibly for the good.

How would we go about doing this.

Someone once posted to enter the following:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" /runtime "drive:\path\file_name"

but it did not work.

Is the Packaging and Deployment a special feature to Access?

Whilst in DESIGN mode go into the Visual Basic Editor, if you select Add-Ins then the Package & Dev Wizard should be one option. (Probably ask for your Office Disc)

Once added as an option, you can run it anytine you are VB Editor.

It will give you the option of packaging RUNTIME with the prog. Therefore any terminal you have with runtime installed will be able to run your Access Databse.

Hope this works out ok

You can also use Data Access Pages which only requires Office on the client pcs.
