I have an unusual situation where I need to hook a 1GB fiber connetion into a 100MB copper network. I have purchased 100MB fiber/cooper media converters before, but I have not seen any 1GB to 100MB converters. Is this even possible to do??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Seems to me the fiber will run at whatever speed the converters are running.

I think the logical way would be to downstep the fibre to 100mbs at the device end then connect a 100mbs media converter (presuming you can do this)
i.e force 1gb fibre device to 100mb. I should think running 1 end at 1gb and the other at 100mb will cause you nothing but problems.

Of course I may be wrong...

Its not the fiber that regulates the speed.. its the devices on the ends... if you have one device that talks at 1gig and the other that talkes at 100mb they arent going to talk to each other... if one is 10/100/1000 and the other is 100 that would work.. but you would only be running at 100 (no advantage to having the 10/100/1000 unless you were going to upgrade the other end to 1000 in the future)

They are called fiber media converters...

It would be To Your Advantage if you used the same media converters on both sides...
