We have a number of DID lines, and have discovered recently that when making outgoing calls, the system gives out the main site number. This is all well and good, but when a caller uses their voicemail redial feature, they dial in on the main site number, which gets routed to one of our contact centres, meaning agents then have to fathom out which site the person who made the original call works, and what their phone number is. Even if the caller leaves the DID number in the voice message, not everybody will bother to write this information down. I have spoken to our admin team, who tell me that it is not possible to program an alternative number by extension, and that the main site number is always given out. Back in the days of our Meridian system, it was possible to do this, so I find it hard to believe it is not possible on Cisco! Can anybody confirm if this is the case, our hopefully give some guidance on how the CLID can be programmed by extension.

Many thanks in advance.

It depends on how the lines from the Telco are set up, but in the programming of the phone in the system GUI, in directory number configuration, towards the bottom of the page, there is external phone number mask. entry should be in the form of NPANxxXXXX. The last 4 XXXX need to be either the actual number, or 4 capital X's. If you put in the X's it will take the last 4 of the programmed phone extension.
If the telco lines are not set to pass this information though, nothing you do will change the outgoing number as that is set by the telco.

Hi trvlr1,

Thanks for your swift reply. I guess it could be that our Telco have turned off the ability to pass the information, and that they will charge us an extortionate amount of money to unblock it!

Sorry if I sound "dumb", but what does NPAN mean, is it the area code?

Thanks again,

Michael

NPA is the area code nxx is the local district and xxx is the last 4 digits. (in the US)

NPA Nxx xxxx
