Is there an option/flag within the nsrarchive command
to compress data (similar to checking "Compress" under
"Operations" inside of the GUI nwarchive)?

If not, is there some other way to get NetWorker to
compress the data from a command-line environment, such
as a c-shell script?

Thanks in advance,

Whew, it's tough wading through the overwhelming
response to my nsrarchive question. [smile]

I realize that I may be the only archive guy on
here. I don't do system backups, I archive and
retrieve gigs and gigs of numerical model input
and output data every day.

Anyways, I'll respond to my own question after
digging through the legato admin guide and running
search after search for things like "compression"
and "directives" through this Tek-Tips website.

I figured I'd explain what I found out in case
any other poor soul comes in stumbling about for
the knowledge I now have.

It's simple really: all I had to do was create
a one-line local directive (.nsr) with the line:
+compressasm: .
and have my script copy this file into the top
level of whatever directory structure I wanted
to archive with the nsrarchive command.

So I learned all sorts of things about directives,
ASMs, etc. in my search for knowledge.

Hope it helps someone else, too. Thanks to all
of you who post to directives questions.
