Our department has been using paradox for over 15 years and they have never directly accessed the database for mail merges in word. They usually do a query in Paradox, export it over to excel and then set up merge in word. Seems like an awful lot of work to me.

Is there anyway to open word and directly access the databases in Paradox?

Nomi1,

Use the 'merge' expert found under TOOLS/EXPERTS and follow the dialogs. Naturally you will have the relevant fields in your word document. If word fails to open then open word before you use the expert. If you experience any difficulties please let me know.

nomi1,

In Word 2002 (and above I presume) ensure that your mail merge tool bar is on then go to Open Data Source - select your Paradox table - and then Insert Merge Fields - Database Fields into your Word document.

Obviously that option can mean Word has access to your entire table. You may wish to connect to a query result table.

Earier versions of Word can access DBF files so you could check that option for your query results.

I hope that this helps.
