Is it possible to display multiple measures on a single PowerPlay Report? As far as I have seen, we can have them all as measures in the Cube, and toggle between the measures. But say,if I have Orders and Shipments as measures, how can I show a both the Orders and Shipments simultaneously? Another problem I have here is that the Orders are based on the Order Date and Shipemnets on the Shipped Date. How can I have these 2 different date columns under one dimension(can i)? All that i want to do is create a model and a cube to show Orders and Shipments for a particular period of time, with the ability of drilling down to details like Locations,Prod Line,Product etc.
Also, can someone explain how PowerPlay resolves the association between 2 datasources, for eg. if i have an Orders.iqd as one datasource and a Shipments.iqd as another, and the relation between the two is the item_id,how can i specify that, or how does PowerPlay resolve it? I believe PowerPlay Transformer doesn't build relations, then how does it resolve the associations? I'l be glad if someone can please explain these things to me.

Thanks,
bob

Hello bob
yes you can show several measurments on the same report. If you are using REPORT (and not EXPLOYER), just drag what ever measuments you want over to the row or column you want.

Ship Date & Order date is possible BUT, it gets very confusing whne you have 2 dates in the same cube. For that reason Cognos reccomends that you don't use two (or more dates) in the same cube. Otherwize go ahead & set them up & pay close attention when you slice & dice with these 2 date fields.

Powerplay does NOT care/know about the two fields. Transformer does the "association", and the fields have to be equal, same capilization, and ar declared as unique. In that case, were the data comes from is a moot point, they are one and the same. However what ever one you first dragged over is the field it actually pulls up. See Tread401-564580 for more details.

Good luck

Click on measures in the dimension viewer, then rightclick and select 'replace colmns'.Hide or delete the measures you dont need.In reporter mode you can drag anything anywhere.

Hi Bruce,
I think I got what I was missing.I created a Model with both the Orders and Shipments. The orders have a different date from the Shipments, but I linked them both to one date, and I got the wrong data. Also, initially the 2 data sources (for Orders and Shipments) did not have the same fields(same name etc.). I havent't yet created the actual model where I want to have the Product info,Orders,Shipments and Inventory as differnt data sources, and link all of them based on the Item_key.Hoping it will work with few problems.

Thanks for your time!

bobg4u,

When you create your actual "model" I don't think you'll want to link those dimensions by using the Item_key -- though this is a common element among these dimensions, you will most certainly get incorrect data as (for example) every shipment of a particular item will get linked to each order that contains that item...not a good thing!

In my environment, there is a one to many relationship between Orders and Shipments, but each shipment detail item has a reference back to a particular order/item, so my link is order + item between Orders and Shipments. Orders and shipments would both link back to your Product Dimension (as would inventory) but Inventory itself would not link to shipments or orders....an alternate model (if you don't care about bin level inventory detail or batch specific for that matter and just carry one inventory value at the item level) could see an attribute in your product dimension that represents total inventory for that item. In my world, I actually do both (ie. I care about batch level and bin level stock levels for those people "who care"), but also carry an Inventory folder in my product dimension with "aggregate" quantities/totals...

Just my .02....

CanadianTechie,
Thanks for the input. As you said,it's true that linking both orders and shipments to the item_key may not produce desirable results. So, i may use a combination of the Orderid and Itemkey for Orders, and ShipmentId and ItemKey for Shipments. That should bring out all orders and shipments. As for inventory goes, yes, i'd need a whole differnt model for that, with also a summary line(per itemkey) in this model too.

Thanks again!

I am trying to achieve similar outcome but with different cases. I want to show 3 Dimensions ( Locations, Status, and Week Ranges. The Status consists of whether of the other for eah location was sent to the warehouse or not sent to the warehouse. The measures would be The Total Amounts, Total Orders, and Total Line per each dimetion).
This what report should look like.
Also is it possible to write this report using Impromptu?
Location1 Week1..etc
Sent to Warehouse Total Dollars
Not Sent to Warehouse Total Orders 23
Total Lines 50

Location2 Week1..etc
Sent to Warehouse Total Dollars
Not Sent to Warehouse Total Orders 23
Total Lines 50

How can I achieve that.
Thank you
Bensta
