Hi,
I have a machine which has THIZ linux. Can I install RedHat [another Linux OS] onto this machine without partitioning. The problem is the Linux [THIZ] is not a development version. It doesnot has ANY compilers, libraries and not allowing me to install Websphere or Oracle or Sybase.
Pls help me. Any suggestions for the above is highly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Are you asking if you can dual boot 2 linux distro's? If so, the answer is yes if you have some extra hard disk space to install Red Hat on.

Hi ChrisP,
Thanks for the answer. The space is there in the hard drive. I don't want to partition. I want to use existing default directories [partitions] for both OSs. Is this possible.
thanks

I agree, why are you using THIZ Linux anyway?

To answer your question, no, you can't use your existing partitions because you'll overwrite files.

Hi
Thanks for the answers. Can I just install Redhat over it. I want to dump THIZ, and only the OS. I have installed the softwares [informix, java, tomcat, etc] and some data is there. I want them to be there. Is it possible to overwrite the other partitions by RedHat. I tried instlling RH, but it gave me an option of formatting the whole hard drive in whcih case I will be losing all my data.
Thanks and best regards

You need to back up any important data and then destroy and re-format your partitions.

I agree with fluid11.

Although it is very likely possible to install RedHat on the existing parititions, I wouldn't want to try it.

It would be by far and away less heartache and effort to just backup your important data then perform a scratch install.
