My company running PowerEdge server with one RAID card forming two hard disk in RAID 1, we are going to purchase two additional hard disk and we add on the existing RAID 1, what solution we can use, can we form two RAID 1, one RAID 1 running A OS, another RAID 1 running B OS and dual boot can be chose on boot menu.

Or forming RAID 10 or 0+1 solution.

Thanks.

Yes you can create a second RAID 1. As for RAID 10 or 0+1, that depends on which PERC you have.

A208...

You can have 2 separate raid 1s, raid 10 or raid 01

The newer Lsilogic based Percs will do raid 10 or 01.

Only fools or possibly knowledgeable video editors would set a raid as 01. Raid 10, in the extreme could lose 50% of the array disks and keep on going; unlikely you would be so lucky but the odds are better than raid 01. At best raid 01 will allow 1 disk failure, the next is complete array failure.

Raid 10 would be much faster than two raid 1s by far. If your main objective is safety, two separate raid 1s would be the choice. I would go with the raid 10, as long as any disks which fail are replaced in a short period of time (0-24 hours); with raid 10, I either have a hotspare or a "cold spare" on hand.
