can two people modify a file on a share at the same time?

i get a read only error when two people try to modify a file a the same time thats located on a share...is this normal. can i fix this?

Depends on what the file is. Most of the time, no. If it happens to be an excel spreadsheet, you can share it from within Excel by going to Tools > Share Workbook, and check the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time box. Marc Creviere
