I am just starting to recreate our old Cobol reports into Cognos reports for Payroll and I need to know if this can be done in a single Cognos report or has to be 2 seperate reports. This is an Employee Earnings Report grouped by Company, Employee, and Earnings number. The first part is a detail list and the second part is a summarized list.

example:
CO. EMP ID Earn # Ytd Hrs Ytd Amt

BQ01 BBBBBB 005 9999.99 9999999.99
035 9999.99 9999999.99
Total 9999.99 9999999.99
CCCCCC 005 9999.99 9999999.99
035 9999.99 9999999.99
Total 9999.99 9999999.99
On the Company break - Summarized Totals by earn number

BQ01 Ytd Hrs Ytd Amt
Earn #
005 Hours 999999.99
Dollars 999999999.99

035 Hours 9999999.99
Dollars 999999999.99

Totals Hours 9999999.99
Dollars 999999999.99

Can this be done in one report?
Thanks
Cathy

Hi,

You don't say which Cognos reporting tool you are using. If it's Impromptu, then create the original detail report as normal (if necessary start with the blank template and add in your own form frame and list frame) then add the summary report to the same page, as a sub-report (Insert/Sub Report/List Frame).
If you're using ReportNet, then create a list report for the original detail report, then add a second list object from the toolbox below your original list object for the summary report.

Hope that helps,

MF.

I am using Impromptu. I would like to insert the summary into a group footer. Can this be done? I've tried several times to insert a list frame but nothing seems to happen. I don't see any list frame on the screen.

Thanks - Cathy

Hi Cathy,

I don't think you can insert a list frame inside the group footer of another list frame in Impromptu. You could try inserting a new list frame below the initial list frame (you may need to shorten the original frame to make room on the page above the page footer), then change the initial list frame properties to start a new page at the beginning of each Company group, and do the same for your new list frame. In the new list frame, mark for insertion the columns you want to see. Does this give you something along the lines of what you're after?

Best regards,

MF

Thanks MF for all your help. I did get the subreport/summary built into my report, but I didn't like the way it worked so I told Payroll they'd have to make do with the 2 reports.

Thanks again
Cathy
