Can the MM system prompt be changed?

Hi Everyone,

We're in the middle of converting users from Audix to Modular Messaging (3.0). We have many phantom voice mail accounts that are options off of various auto attendants (application in MM). Because there is no physical phone for these phantom mailboxes, users are required to check for messages from other users' phones.

If a phantom mailbox user tries accessing MM from a users phone that has a mailbox associated with that extension, the system requests a password (thinking that the user of the extension is loggin in).

Instead of pressing * # to have the system prompt them for a mailbox number and password, the person tries entering their phantom mailbox password. This of course gives them an "invalid login" reply from the system. Eventually they lock up the account because they feel that re-trying the same incorrec digits will eventually work. Isn't that the definition of insanity?

I've tried to teach the user community that they need to press * then # to get the system to prompt them for a mailbox number, but we're talking about the average user who isn't interested in listening to prompts or remembering clever key sequences like * #.

The old tried and true Intuity Audix would prompt for an extension and then password every time. Ah, the good old days. Can MM be made to behave like Audix, or ... can an application be written to prompt users for thier mailbox, then prompt them for thier password, then log them in to their account and bypass the system auto attendant?

Has anyone else run in to this problem, or am I just having a bad week?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott

After the first incorrect password, our MM states, "Invalid Logon - Mailbox Number Please".

I'm not sure if that counts against consectutive failed logon attempts...

Is your setup continually asking for a password similar to, "Invalid logon-Please re-enter password"...?

Thanks,
CJH

Thanks CJH, yes, we'll get the same error prompt. I was hoping to make the Modular Messaging system sound and act more like the old Intuity Audix when loggin in.

I think most users can be trained to press * then # to be prompted for a mailbox number, the rest will just have to be frustrated. If I can adapt anyone can.

So *7 does not ask them for the mailbox number?

Hi Ken,

If you dial the Modular Messaging access number (x-3900 for our system) pressing * 7 does nothing. Pressing * # will prompt for a mailbox number. What I was looking for is a way to have MM prompt for a mailbox number every time x-3900 was dialed.

I think I am confused. If the user calls from their ext does it not play their name and ask for the password?

And even if they are calling from a different number you should be able to press * and it will ask you what you want to do.(it should tell you that)

Or just make 3900 a caller app so they can press # to enter their mailbox number.

Ken,

One major problem I was trying to address was the following:

Extension 5509 is a phone for our Aquatic department. There are (5) users who need voice mail, but there is only one phone and one extension. I built 5509 as an application that is a basic auto attendant allowing the caller to leave a message with several employees. The cover path allows for the phone to be answered live, or will roll to MM after (3) rings.

When I first built the auto attendant, I set it up and recorded the "voice name" as Aquatic Department. When a user dials the MM access extension from this phone, they hear "Aquatic Department" and then MM prompts them for a password. Instead of pressing * # they would attempt to log in to x5509 eventually locking the account out.

My low-tech solution was to re-record the "voice name" to read: "Please press * then # to log in to your voice mail account." Problem solved. I just didn't address it from a user's perspective.

Are you using T-1 to the PBX or something else?

We're connecting each of the (2) MAS units to our 8710s via line-side T1 circuits. Integration is Q-SIG. The whole thing is kind of academic now, I've solved the stickiest problem by re-recording the mailbox name (previous post).

I'm really doubting that the system prompts can be changed. I'll just have to think of a creative way to make users read the documentation I provide.

You could just have them dial a diff number that is covered to MM and does not have a mailbox. Then they would get the base auto attn and they would just hit # and mailbox number.
