Can the HP 930c function WITHOUT a color cartridge installed?

I have an HP 930c lying around with a full black ink cartridge (and several spares) but I do not have a color ink cartridge handy nor do I want to spring for the $30 to purchase one. I really just want to hang this printer off of my home network to be used as a text only black/grayscale printer. The problem is that even when I set the default printer settings to "Print in Grayscale" and try to print I get the "Color Cartridge Not Installed" warning and my print job is cancelled. Is there any way to print on this machine WITHOUT having a color cartridge installed?
