Instead of using the CAP to load tapes into an L180 silo, I manually placed the tapes in the slots and inventoried the silo. All tapes are listed correctly, however, backups are not being wriiten to any of these tapes. Do you need to enter tapes through the CAP?

Error is "error requesting media, TpError in SEMAPHORE opeartion".

Another error is "Media 999123 removed from media manager DB (expired).

Thanks,

Craig

No, you can do it that way (almost if you have to change 180 cartbridges !!).

Have you done an inventory & UPDATE operation ?

The second message is not really an error message, it only means that all images on this media have passed their retention period and that this media will no be available.

Hope this helps.

A semaphore timout has to do with the initial 45 second communications timeout expiring ... To change this:
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters
Name: ConnectMaxTimeout
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: Number of seconds

Can you manually load one of the tapes through robtest and then run vmoprcmd to see if it sees the correct tape number? If not, has an inventory update been done?

Thanks for both helpful replies. Even though the Media shows
the proper Volume Pool, when I checked each volume, the Volume Pool was set to None. I manually changed each volume to the correct volume pool and it seems to have corrected the problem.

Thanks again!

It can be done.
The only thing you have to do is run an inventory after you remove/enter tapes manualy
I have done this a lot of times lately due to a problem with eject on our library
