Hello,

Im printing a 170x240mm (when cropped) PDF centered in a A4 page.

My layout printer is a HP Deskjet 840C.

The file was original composed in PM65.2 and then printed to PS and then converted to PDF by Distiller... You know...

WELL, SO I PRINT THE FILE IN ACROBAT 4.0. BUT, AFTER CUT THE PAGE, ITS NOT THE REAL SIZE BUTS ONLY 165X232mm -- some texts will be impossible to read cause its onty 6pts...

TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWER:

1) I checked: PM652 "REDUCED TO FIT" option when creat the PS. IT WAS NOT SELECTED.

2) I checked: ACROBAT JOB OPTIONS. ITS OK.

3) I checked: THE PDF SIZE OPENNING THE FILE IN PHOTOSHOP. ITS OK: an A4 and 170X240 WHEN CROPPED.

4) I checked: THE ACROBAT "FIT TO PAGE" option when print. It was not selected.

5) I checked: The Hp Deskjet 840C Properties button and following Dialog options to find a "Hard to Find" FIT TO PAGE or thing like that option. IT WAS NOT SELECTED TOO.

6) I checked: The Printable Area as notified by CorelDraw "View Printable Area" command. And Deskjet 840C can print 202x283mm of a4 paper.

Now the question:

HOW CAN I PRINT THIS AT THE REAL SIZE as I WAS Doing SINCE 1989 when I start my career?!!!

pubah,

What vs of PM? What OS? The HP is probably not a true PS printer, but a clone. Make sure you have the proper PPDs installed, and make sure you have the latest printer drivers, too. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Hang on a minute... you don't need a postscript printer to PRINT a PDF.

Pubah - let me get this straight. You created a document in PM 6.52 measuring 170mm x 240mm, centred on an A4 page (210mm x 297mm). You converted it to a PDF by creating a postscript file**, then distilling it. When you printed it from Acrobat (do you mean the Reader?) the document measured 165mm x 232mm - it didn't 'chop off' the 5-6mm missing on each dimension, but it shrank the whole page down.

** Which printer did you create the postscript file to? Presumably NOT the Deskjet (I am sure it is not a PS printer). Do you have a 'virtual' PS printer? However, you must be doing something right here, otherwise you could not have created the PDF in the first place.

I would also suggest downloading Acrobat Reader 5 and opening and printing your PDF from that.

I seem to recall someone else having the same problem when printing from a PDF and I cannot recall what caused it. I will see if I can find what was the cause (and hopefully the solution).

>>you don't need a postscript printer to PRINT a PDF<<

True, but you need PS printer drivers to create a PDF.

I have seen similar things, and can't remember the exact cause either, but I am pretty certain it was the printer driver or PPD, since he seems to have covered all the bases on set up. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Yes, exactly.

Yes. Windows 98 Driver for Xerox DocuColor40 w/FieryXJ RIP.

Ok. But Adobve Acrobat 4.0 was full functional until now. Doing exactly what i want without new "features" a.k.a. BUGS.

Thank you very much.

This subject came up recently on another forum I visit - and someone knew the reason! Basically, the decrease in size of the PDF compared to the original is because the margins existing in the PM file are included as part of the postscript file. And then when you open it in the Reader, it automatically adds its own margins. This means you effectively get a double margin all the way round. This is done automatically by the Reader to ensure that no matter what printer is used to print the PDF, it will always fit on the page.

The solution? It seems you need to have a printer that will do edge to edge printing for this to work, but this was the suggestion....In Acrobat, go to File>>Page Setup and make sure the Reader printer settings are the same as the the PM File>>Print settings (not File>>Document Setup settings), which should both be set for edge-to-edge (if your printer can). When you open Acrobat to print, DESELECT the 'Fit to Page' option - which is the default - and you should get a 100% size print of the PDF.
