Can Store retail analysis do sales predictions?

I am new to this group, founder of paitsystems, a company making pos systems and retail software in india.
Currently, doing research on whether store retail analysis do sales predictions and if yes how?
Lot of things like AI, machine augmentation, cloud computing, big data can help, but I think they add cost to system. What should a good system have in it?
