Give me some color ideas for this, i'm building a model kit of one of these and am stuck on colors

I have a batch of coloured versions of this image for you.
I just need to post them somewhere so I'm setting up an account or two for shared photos.
If you haev any suggestions of where to post them, feel free to shout! :)

OK,
Hopefully you should find some coloured versions of your car [link=http://www.flickr.com/photos/32026429%40N00/]here[/url]

Hi Trojan

Don't tell me your are a repro specialist as well!

Kind Regards
Duncan

I'm only kidding - it is what i have been doing for the last 17 years. I used to scan images for print - i have 2 ICG drum scanners (355i & 330i). I also do alot of Photoshop retouching work. But i am insanely bored of it all now - and i'm earning a bit of money writing Perl scripts behind websites.

That's fine.
I have been working for many years as senior developer for many clients.
Trouble is, all my clients ran out of money.
Now there is no work left for me.
:(

So I annoy people here instead! ;-)

TWB - Any chance you could 'annoy' us (me) a bit more with a step by step on how you did that please :)

It's how you got the colour to graduate in the same way that the original does that I would really like to understand if possible.

Many thanks
Ken...........

I'm not sure I can help you much there since I don't use photoshop.
I'm an Open Source kinda guys through and through so I us Linux and Gimp.
If you want me to explain how it's done using Gimp, that's not a problem but I guess that it's probably not for this particular forum.

:)

One method:-

1. cut the car out carefully with the path tool
2. make a new layer - make sure you have this layer selected
3. turn the path into a selection (Cmd+click on the path)
4. fill the selection with your colour of choice
5. change the layer property of Normal to Multiply

This will maintain detail within the bodywork - i.e. the bottom of the car will look slightly darker than the top

... But Trojan may have some tricks up his sleeve - he's pretty sneaky

Kind Regards

There are a number of ways to skin this cat.
I prefer to use the car itself to create the selection.
I decompose the image to R/G/B components and/or C/M/Y components to find something that gives me the most contrast.
Then I erase areas that don't relate to the image leaving the car as white on black (or vice versa). This method tends to give a really good edge to the cutout.
Also, I used a layer mask so that I could repeately flood fill the whole layer with colour and the layer mask would control where the colour was applied. The selective colouring will work just as well though.
I assume that this explanation overlaps enough with photoshop that it makes sense (I hope).

Is any of that sneaky enough for you? ;-)

OMG Trojan!
To actually create those examples, and then to go and post them is way above and beyond the call. [thumbsup]

A star for you...

Duncan / Trojan, thanks very much indeed to both you guys ===> *

Much appreciated

Well thank you Ken!

Taking a closer look - I prefer Trojan's sneakier method of getting the 'mask' from one of the channels

Kind Regards
