My question is a simple one
Why are some IT people use public IP ranges for their internal network?

Public IP's that are not even in the same country as they are.

Then telling me it is for security and I would not understand. (Don't really appreciate it when someone calls me stupid as I know that the regular public IP is in the frame and also the internal address no matter what it is)

So I am asking as I know that there are plenty of great networking people here in this forum. Does that make sense or did I just encounter some IT guys that are nuts.

I've encountered this a few times.

The reason they've done this is that they think since they are using public IPs from another country no one will be able to hack them.
The theory is that if someone tries to access an internal machine they would instead be sent to a server in another country.

In reality this provides basically no protection at all.
They still have their public IP on the firewall and any backdoors installed on clients would still allow access to the internal network.
In all cases I've encountered these have been one-man IT consultants, never seen a larger IT firm do this.

It's usually pointless to argue with them tho since they think they've done something great :)
