Can Sharepoint track logins and downloads by user name?

There is some builtin reporting to WSS sites under Site Settings, Site Administration and then view usage data, not real good but its not too bad, you can also use the IIS log files but that would only give you the IP address I think not the username.

Thanks for responding. On the View Site Usage page I selected "user" and "daily" and clicked Go. It shows one user (me) but seems to indicate I have hit the site 145 times today, which isn't right. Also it shows me hitting the site on days when I never logged in. Do you know why that would happen?

You get a hit for everything on the page. That is if you visit a page with 4 gif files on it, you will register 5 hits, 1 for the page and 1 for each gif.

As for the days you were not logged on, I'm guessing that maybe Sharepoint is setup to use your account to crawl content for the searches which would also register hits.

I havent tried it with Sharepoint yet but I use Mach5 Analyzer for stats on our website which is pretty good, I assume it would work with Sharepoints IIS log files as well.

You were right. I logged in yesterday as various users and today the Site Usage page shows one hit for each user. Thank you sooo much

I was trying to add stock quotes functionality in my sharepoint site, and I was trying to create a DataView web part in front page connecting to XML web service (

http://office.microsoft.com/Research/Providers/MoneyCentral.asmx?WSDL).

I added a new data source for this but when I drop this data source to the web part zone I got error message saying the XML data is invalid.

Our company is using a proxy server, with authentication required for connecting to the internet. I am thinking this is the problem but I have no idea how to fix it.

Any ideas? Thank you for your help in advance.
