We have tried setting up a branch office on Pop3, but because of Active Directory authentication, we can only get it to work when using the admin account. Obviously we don't want to do this even temporarily. It seems if we want POP3 to work, we'd have to reconfigure our servers and security, which I'm not willing to do.
Since some ISP's(SBC)are still filtering port 135 incoming and outgoing, can the RPC port be assigned elsewhere and work with exchange? I know that eventually even if the port is "moved" that crackers and hackers will just use that port as well. It's kind of a catch-22. Thank GOD we only have 2 branches out of 20 that can't access their email externally. If all offices were with SBC or Pacific Bell, we'd be hosed.
Thanks
