How internationally usable are wireless routers? Apart from mains adaptors, what other porblems is one likely to face moving around the world? Will I have to buy a new router when I move country?

The only issue I can think of is the difference in Channels specified.

If you specify the router I can refere you to compliant firmware upgrades for your US to EU compatible, or Japan/SE Asia firmware.

This makes sense as you might also be required to use protocols not used in the US, such as PPTP with Vc/Aux that make no sense in an US context.

The devices themselves, if supported appropriately by the manufacturer, do not care in a physical hardware sense other than the appropriate voltage supply from the mains. It becomes completely a firmware issue.

Please advise.

Thanks bcastner, that was fast. The router I am thinking of is a Netgear WGT624

Have just got this reply from Netgear:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Netgear Support. My name is Saravanan & I will be handling your enquiry.

I would like to inform you that you have to just change the country in the wireless settings of the router.

Regards

I think this ends this question.
