Can Quicktime Recognize .ASF Video files?

I am trying to work with .asf files on a mac, but the only way I can get the system to read them is through windows media player for mac. This will not allow me to bring files to imovie...any tips on working with .asf files in quicktime in order to then use them in imovie?
For some reason Panasonic refuses to work in any other mpeg format than .asf, which is not very helpful for mac users!

You cant use ASF in QT. ASF is a native Windows Only file format.

you will havta convert from ASF to MOV or AVi or MPG for QT to recognize it.
