I hear some people say that Pix can't route packets. What does that mean? It seems a PIX can also be used as a router. Am I wrong? For example, if I have a PIX at my end and a 2600 at the corporate headquarter's, is that less efficient than having a 2600 router at both my end and the corporate end? Can't the PIX do everything the router can and more?

HI.

The PIX can route packets. That's one of it's jobs.

However, the PIX does not support many routing protocols, and does not have serial interfaces.
So for a WAN connection you still need a router, unless your WAN link endpoints are Ethernet (like with ADSL).

About the routing protocols - if your using static routes like in your case, then pix has no problem.
