OM
I have a LAN with a ADSL router - Allied Data CopperJet 810 Rev. 1 with 2 computers on the LAN. One of the computer is an old PIII 800 Win 2000 Pro, and the other is a P4 2.4 Win XP Pro. I setup the router using the old Win 2000 computer, and through it I can surf the internet, ping hostnames, resolve DNS and everything is perfect.
But when using the other computer I can:
1. Ping IP address & hostnames (yahoo.com, google.com etc.)
2. I can access all the network LAN resources such as the printer, and the files on the other computer.
3. I can also access the router web admin page and configure it.
4. But, when I start my browser whether it is Mozilla or IE6 I get "web-site found...." but that's it, no further download occurs.
5. I tried typing the IP address of yahoo.com (I got it from pinging yahoo.com) but the same thing happens - Web site Found - but nothing further happens.
6. I have checked all the settings such as Automatic Configuration is unchecked....
7. I have also run the WinSockFix but still no progress.
8. I have also checked the Event Viewer but there are no errors or warnings.
9. Finally, I formatted my hard drive, and re-installed WIN XP Pro completely, but I am shocked to see still the web-site found - but no other download.

I hope someone can help me on this.

Just to add to the above post - After I re-installed Win XP Pro, I shut down the old computer (just in case it may have some kind of trojan that spreads through the lan), and then started the browser, but I still get Web site Found, and no further download.
I think the problem may be with my CopperJet router or something else......

As a first cut on a difficult issue, download and use the utility I described in this FAQ: faq779-4625

I have already tried it, see my first post in this thread point no. 7
I also did a fresh installation of Win XP, which should wipe out any virus or trojans that there are. And after the fresh installation, I turned off the other computer so it would not trojanize the newly installed Win XP computer.
But to my utter surprise, I still get Web-site Found message but no further download.
I hope this info helps.

I have exactly the same problem on a machine i am setting up. Did you ever find a solution?

The one difference I see between this machine and the other XP machine on the network is te nods type which on the other machine is Hybrid.

I also have a problem on this machine that a legacy Group Policy from the connection to a Domain is causing an inability to edit the registry.

PS not sure if im paranoid but I blanked out the IP Address in this message

Just to finish this thread, and also help TimK01, who is also facing the same problem as me, I manage to solve this problem with my computer.
It seems my adapter (on-board 3Com) had the Maximum Frame Size set at 1510. Since I am using ADSL broadband, I set it down to 1492 to match the ADSL MTU. And, now I can happily surf the internet.
Right-click on your adapter at the task bar, then goto status, click on properties, then click on CONFIGURE, goto Advanced tab, and set the Maximum Frame Size to 1492. Don't change any other settings, as this alone should do it.
Let me know if this solved the problem.
