The subject says it all. I can ping FQDN's and IP Addresses. I CANNOT ping hostnames.

Windows 2003 server environment. Active Directory Integrated DNS. Two domains, ROOT and CHILD. I'm 99% sure it's a DNS issue, but cannot figure out what the heck is going on. This is a recent issue after re-addressing all servers in the CHILD domain.

Try and have your DHCP server append the dns suffixes for both domains. It seems that the suffix for the domain that your target is in is not being automatically appended. Or you can manually set the DNS suffix in your DNS settings on the system you are pinging from. Either way, it's a suffix issue.

Thank you very much, ShackDaddy. In fact, I have resolved the issue earlier using this same idea. It took me some time to resolve and drove me nuts for a day. With only an hour on the clock, adding the child domain FQDN suffix to the list in root was the solution. This setting can be distributed via GPO.
