Can Ping but surf/browsing internet not possible

I have a 384k ADSL with the following Router:
Allied Data (allieddata.com)
Model: CopperJet 810 Revision 1

I can ping my DNS servers, yahoo.com, my router, and all web-sites. I can also send/receive mail through Outlook Express. But when I start Internet Explorer 6, it says Web-site Found.... but then the download stops. Even the title bar of the window shows the title of the web-site for eg. CNN.

I thought something wrong with IE, so I tried Mozilla, but the same problem. I tried a 56k dialup to the same ISP with the same DNS servers, and I can browse normally.

I suspect my MTU settings (which is 1500) maybe to blame, or something else.

Please help.

MTU of 1492 is typical for DSL, 1500 is typical for cable.

You might try a repair of your Winsock service stacks: faq779-4625
