Can php connect to oracle db on other hosts?

Does anyone know if PHP can connect to an Oracle database on another machine? All the tutorials, and help I have searched the web for, suggests that Oracle has to be installed on the same server as PHP for both to work. Can someone help me to know how to connect to Oracle on a different server than waht my PHP is installed on?
