I'm trying to export contacts to .vcf. I noticed that Outlook can *import*, but I can't seem to find the export.

Now, the cynic in me would say that's because MS is scared that peoople might migrate away from outlook if it was easy to do, such as by exporting to an industry standard.

But I hate being a cynic--please tell me that I just didn't look in the right place and the MS will happily allow me to export my contacts to .vcf. Possible?
Thanks,

A .vcf is only a text file with one contact in it. To convert a contact to a vcf, all you have to do it File > Save as and choose the Vcard format (file type). No export necessary.

sawedoff,
Yes, but I want to do this in bulk, that is, save all my contacts in this format in one operation. Not possible?

I guess don't understand why you would want to do them all in bulk. If you have 200 contacts, you would then have 200 little files on your PC. I also don't know of a way to do more than one at a time. But you can export all contacts to other file formats easily. A CSV can be opened in Excel, and may be nmore useful.

Maybe I am missing your purpose?

A .csv file will work just fine, but I have found that contacts that have both a home address and a business address default to the business address being the default address when re-imported to another machine from .csv format (mostly, I want my personal contacts to default to the home address). One way to preserve it is to export it to a .pst file (have Outlook create a new one for the occasion), Then File, Import and Export on the other box.

sawedoff,
My original purpose was to import my contacts into an iPod nano. Now, I know ipod has a 'sync' function, but that doesn't seem to work, and I'm rather certain if I was to pay the fee for Apple Support, they'd tell me it's MS's fault, and MS would say it's Apples fault. Only difference is that it would cost me more to have MS blame it on Apple.

Anyway, the Outlook sync does not work for the iPod, but it does appear to import .vcf files just fine, so rather than spend days trying to fix the sync issue, I figured a one-time import would be fine.

I don't really care that the ipod may be missing a late-breaking change of address, so the 'sync' feature is really not important to me, I'd be happy doing a monthly full export/import--but I'd just like to automate the export from Outlook.

flapeyre,
I didn't see an Import .csv for the iPod--which is a problem too--but as you've suggested .vcf seems to be a more robust way to do it anyway.
