I have an old application that uses Oracle client 8.0.5 for connection to the database. I cannont get this version of the client to connect to a 10g database. I have read that you can connect to 10g using version 8 of the client. Is there a different version or a patch required to connect to 10g database with version 8 client?

The 8.0 client can't, the 8.1 client can. However if you update to the 10 or 11 client, it will not be able to talk to your 8.0 databse (if you still have one). If the old database is still in use, keep both clients.
