The computer in question is running Windows 2000 and has relatively old hardware. The problem is around noon today the computer lost the ability to access anything outside the local network. The rest of the computers on the network have full access yet this one does not (and its not the port on the switch). I can ping and access shared files and a number of other ports on any local computer with that computer but I cannot ping the gateway the DNS server or anything outside my local network. The settings for DNS, Subnet Mask, and Gateway are the same as computers that can access the internet and I've even tried changing the IP (both statically and through a DHCP server) to no avail. Any clues?

When you are pinging outside the network, are you doing it by name or IP address?

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly. You Can ping everything on your local network, but not the gateway or dns servers. My questions are
1. Are the dns servers on the local network?
2. You say you can't ping the gateway, yet the gateway is on your local network. Is this a correct statement?

How about the other machines that you can ping ? Can they ping the DNS and gateway ? Cleaners routinely destroy web sites
